Teachers’ Day Celebration
Teachers awaited their day, the day that is coined for them. May second (2nd May) was momentous not because teachers received gifts, it was due to the significance that carry in itself. This is the day marked for teachers of Bhutan coinciding with the death anniversary of the third Monarch Jigme Dorji Wangchuck since 2003. It is celebrated to remember and pay tribute to the Father of Modern Bhutan and appreciate the teacher’s contribution in nation building.
Generally, no matter what turmoil the teachers through the year; they forget the negatives, let go criticisms and move forward carrying smiles and cheers on their face. No one knows the pain they endure, least the pressure they receive but to the world they are heroes, the unsung heroes and the backbone of the nation.
To the Lingmethang Middle Secondary School, teachers are the movers and shakers, they are the busiest bees and the chariot that pull the cart to the destiny. Teachers are overwhelmingly active and generously industrious. Management is upbeat, supportive and guided by the principles of virtue THA DAMSHIG and LEY JUDEY.
Lingmethang Middle Secondary School as few others did celebrate the Teachers’ Day in 2021 amidst fear and anxiety of the dreaded virus the COVID-19. Though the gala was short lived yet it was exuberant moment for all especially those who joined in 2020 as the year got jeopardized by corona virus compelling the school to shut down. Children of higher grades have mechanized the day to offer their thanks and demonstrate gratitude to the teachers. They have planned series of fascinating activities such as balloon dance, musical cheer, partner dance to mention few for teachers. Children also showcased extravagate performances through dances and music.
The program commenced with the singing of national anthem, His Majesty’s zhabten followed by speeches on thanks giving and appreciation. The cake cutting alongside happy teachers’ day song rejuvenated the whole air. The very act was serene, solemn and emotional but the sudden burst of applause of the crowd overtook the solemnness and replaced by laughter, joy and excitement.
Besides such mesmerizing activities, children have also arranged delicious tea and snacks for teachers. It was served separately in a well arranged hall in groups.
The whole programs were holistic besides being remarkable. Teachers got locked onto their chair and engrossed watching programs. They esteemed every bit of their program until the announcement came, “That was the beginning of the end of today’s program.”
The mike was then reached to the principal who extended thanks and appreciated the whole effort in making the day momentous. His final remark was, “The teachers will return the show on children’s day, November 11th, 2021.”
With that, we called the day off.
